DIY: Bird Pillow

86f7b954d27c11e1ade51231381b40a4_6.jpg

This pillow only cost about $7, as opposed to $30+ that stores sell something very similar for. So, it was well worth it.

Just take a trip to the closest Hobby Lobby, in their large stencil section, pick out a large bird stencil. This one was about $2  (on sale). You'll need some painters tape and white fabric paint while your at it.

Place the stencil in the center of the pillow, and tape all the sides down. Then use small pieces of tape to loose bits in the middle of the stencil. Using fabric paint, start to paint on the stencil and inward. This helps the paint stay within the lines, instead of leaking underneath the stencil itself and messing up the image. Once all areas are covered, let the paint dry and apply a second coat. Once that coat is dry, remove the stencil and free hand any tiny visible mistakes, and any areas that did not take the second coat up as well.

The whole process took about an hour for me, but it was pretty fun. And I've received many compliments on my pillow already. :)

Life's rough, Man!

And hectic! I feel like a lot has changed over the past few months, and not much has changed that much at the same time. Being the little workaholic that I am, I still work 30-40+ hour weeks between my 10008075064370.5 jobs I have. And for the most part, I like it at all of my jobs right now. Since it's summer, I am constantly doing projects and changing things up. I have specific projects to manage at the other, and then thete's the latest one. I'm still trying to gain my ground there, all the while trying to figure out the residents but measure up my coworkers. Some are chill, others not so much, and some I already dislike. But at least with the latest job, I feel like I'm actually making a difference in people's lives.

With every new job, I find out more about myself, how I manage situtations, how I work with others, my strengths and weaknesses.... Which I enjoy thoroughly. There's great value in reflecting upon oneself and being self aware. Alas, between the multiple jobs, a out of wack school schedule, dealing with family issues, dealing with the future....it's all starting to take a toll. I mean, imagine two hours of sleep, six hours of work, class, studying, caring fpr pets, one hour nap, ten hours of work and repeat multiple days a week. Fun roght? I constantly feel pulled into many directions. I'm increased my time spent on prayer, meditation, Pilates and running to help decrease extra stress. Plus side on that, I have perfect health according to my NP. Ha, glad that's still going for me...surprisingly. But, such is the life of adele-supported nursing student, right?

Let's give it the good ol' college try: Shepard's Pie

Cameron hates everything in the meal, except ground beef maybe, but the rest of the household appreciated my hard work!

Ingredients:
1 can of corn
1 can of peas
1 cup of carrots
1 pepper
1 onion
1 garlic
1-2 pounds of lean ground beef
1 tablespoon of steak seasoning
4 potatoes
1/2 jar of pasta sauce
1 small carton of whipping cream

Directions:

  1. Cook ground beef for about 7-9 minutes, or until browned.
  2. Place potatoes in microwave for 8-9 minutes.
  3. Chop up veggies. When the meat is done, place the meat in a separate bowl. Cook veggies in the grease from the meat.
  4. Mix sauce, meat and veggies together.
  5. Mash the potatoes with the whipping cream.
  6. Place veggie/meat mix in a serving bowl, then place mash potatoes on top. Smooth out the potatoes. Add a pinch salt on top if desired.

Fun Fact: Shepard's Pie is named so because of the mashed potatoes looking like fluffy sheep.
